The role

A preparer who treats every return like it's their own.

At Lucid, tax preparation isn't a volume game. We file carefully, explain plainly, and stay in the client's corner long after the return is submitted. You'll own returns end-to-end — from intake through review — and partner with our network when a matter moves past our lane.

This is a role for someone who finds satisfaction in getting the details right and in helping someone finally understand their own financial picture.

What sets this role apart

  • Real continuity with clients — not a once-a-year transaction.
  • A partner network that backs you up on complex matters.
  • Year-round work that keeps your skills sharp and your income steady.

What you'll do

  • Prepare and review federal and state individual (1040) and small-business returns with accuracy and care.
  • Translate complex tax outcomes into plain language so clients actually understand their return.
  • Identify deductions, credits, and planning opportunities that serve the client — not the invoice.
  • Stay current on IRS rules, form changes, and filing-season deadlines.
  • Coordinate with our partner network of enrolled agents and accountants when a matter escalates.
  • Support clients year-round with quarterly planning, amendments, and quick clarifications.

What you'll bring

  • 2+ years of hands-on individual and small-business tax preparation experience.
  • PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number) in good standing — or willingness to obtain one before season.
  • Strong working knowledge of Drake, ProConnect, Lacerte, or comparable professional tax software.
  • Comfortable with self-employment, rental, investment, and multi-state returns.
  • Detail-obsessed. You catch what others miss and document your reasoning clearly.
  • Excellent communicator — you can explain a Schedule C to someone who has never read one.

Day to day

Translate the return into something a client actually understands.

You'll sit across from real people, walk them through what was filed, and leave them clearer than they came in.
